Kotzias is accompanied by his Deputy Minister Dimitris Mardas, in charge of economic affairs, Deputy Industry Minister Theodora Tzakri and a delegation of 40 Greek businessmen who will be looking into the Iranian market for business opportunities in various fields.
According to reports, the business delegation includes representatives of Aegean Airlines as well as construction materials and food companies. Representatives of Greek pharmaceutical companies such as ELPEN, Demo and Vianex are also part of the delegation.
The Greek top diplomat is scheduled on his two-day visit to hold talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday, as well as with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, after speaking at an event at the University of Tehran on the topic of Greece’s role in the Middle East and Europe.
Kotzias will meet with Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi.
Alexis Tsipras’s left-wing SYRIZA government which recently assumed power in Greece is said to be highly keen on expanding economic ties with other countries across the world, including Iran. The Greek foreign minister’s visit to Tehran aims to further promote economic and trade relations between the two countries.
